Torchlight: Infinite is a free-to-play action RPG developed and published by XD. You fight through enemies, collect gear, and adjust your character for the next encounters. Its central appeal is building around a hero, skills, talents, and items, then changing that setup as new loot gives you different options.
The game reached its full Steam release on May 9, 2023, after entering Early Access in October 2022, and it continues to receive seasonal content. Its progression includes both loot you find in combat and an item marketplace. If you enjoy revising builds and trying seasonal systems, this hub explains the basic loop, access requirements, and choices that shape your gear.
How Loot and Builds Fit Together
Combat yields items you can use to develop your character. Your hero provides a starting point, while skills, talents, and equipment all contribute to how that character plays. A useful drop can therefore prompt more than an equipment swap: it may make you reconsider other parts of your setup. You take the revised build into further fights and look for loot that supports the next change you want to make.

Finding items yourself is only one route to developing a build. The Trade House adds an item market, so a piece of gear you want may be something to seek through more combat or through trading. You can focus on the rhythm of fighting and collecting, but targeted equipment plans also make the market relevant.
What Seasons Add
Seasons give the game new themes and systems alongside its established combat and loot loop. The Tartarus season, launched in October 2026, is an example: it adds prison encounters to Netherrealm content and a progression system for recruiting Followers. A season can therefore introduce new choices for encounters and builds as well as new rewards.
If you return after a break, check the current season before carrying an old build straight into new content. Updates can change which encounters and progression systems are relevant. XD outlines Tartarus in its official season announcement.
Platforms, Account, and Price
The base game is free to play on Steam, which also lists in-app purchases. Its listed features include single-player, online co-op, and cross-platform multiplayer. Torchlight: Infinite spans PC and mobile. Steam says you need to link a third-party account, such as TapTap, to log in, so allow for that step when starting on Steam.
Steam’s system requirements specify broadband internet and recommend an SSD. The game is most directly suited to players who want to collect loot, compare gear, and keep adjusting how a hero fights. Before starting, the immediate practical choices are setting up the required account link and deciding whether to play solo or use the available online co-op.
