The Tartarus season went live in Torchlight: Infinite on October 16, 2026. Its central activity is a prison round prepared through Netherrealm combat: escaped inmates drop Prisoner Nameplates, which let you begin a round of Warden’s Duty once you have enough. You then develop inmates for a final riot. Your decisions during the round affect the enemies you face and the rewards you can reveal afterward.
The season also adds Followers who fight alongside you in the Netherrealm and The Ultimate One, a new trait for the existing Spacetime Witness Youga. Returning players have changes to consider outside the seasonal activity, too: Afterlight becomes a core system, Trade House searches gain new options, and previously revived Hero Memories can be revived again. XD’s season announcement and full SS14 patch notes cover the wider update.
How a Prison Round Leads to the Riot
Defeating escaped inmates in the Netherrealm earns Prisoner Nameplates. Collect enough and you can start a round of Warden’s Duty. Its 20 days are phases within that prison round, rather than 20 real-world days or the length of the season.

During Warden’s Duty, an inmate can consume a countered target of the same rarity to increase its own rarity. XD gives the counter hierarchy as Mammoth > Lion > Wolf > Colossal Rat. Torture Instruments, Prison Incidents and Warden’s Treasure shape choices during the round. Chromatic inmates leave the board and are held separately. The fan-run TLIDB season page provides the fuller phase-by-phase account.
When the 20 round days end, both the held Chromatic inmates and those left on the board enter the riot. Each defeated group reveals a Warden’s Cache matching its rarity. Once every inmate is defeated or your revival attempts are exhausted, you proceed to the reward room to open the caches revealed so far. Raising an inmate’s rarity can therefore improve the cache available, but you still need to defeat its group in the riot to reveal it.
Followers Support Your Netherrealm Build
Followers serve a different purpose from the inmates raised for the riot. Letters of Introduction from the interrogation room bring these companions into the Netherrealm. The patch notes identify four Follower groups: Lion Queen, Lone Wolf, Mammoth and Witch Rat. Those names should be kept separate from the prison round’s inmate counter hierarchy.
Followers alone can use Tartarus Skills. Their effects can strengthen your character, support defense or weaken enemies, while each skill arrives with random Support Skills. Higher-quality Followers have more skill slots and better active skills. That makes the actual combination relevant to a build: a defensive effect and an enemy debuff solve different problems, even when both come from high-quality Followers.
Youga and Existing Endgame Systems Also Change
The Ultimate One is a new Hero Trait for Spacetime Witness Youga, rather than a new base hero. It revolves around the Clockwork Core and three development paths that can be combined. For players already using Youga, this opens another way to shape a build, with the useful combination depending on its skills.
Afterlight becomes part of the core game and gains a Talent Constellation. Supreme Showdown adds Star’s Fall and a rotating boss lineup. SS14 therefore affects players who spend their time beyond the new prison activity. The patch notes also change many skills, gear effects and drop sources, so returning players should check the specific skills and items in an existing build before relying on earlier recommendations.
Trading, Memories and Map Setup Get Practical Changes
Advanced Trade House search gains more condition types. You can save, import, export and share groups of search conditions, and the Trade House supports Followers and Tartarus Skills. A current supplement to the patch notes also restricts Trade House transactions to Flame Elementium. Players who used another currency for listings should account for that change.
Previously revived Ultimate Hero Memories can be revived again. The new result is rolled from the initial state, after which you choose whether to keep the old or new result. Material costs rise with repeated attempts. Automatic Memory affix reconstruction is a separate change: it lets you specify a target affix and tier, then save favored affixes for easier access.
Netherrealm setup gains Compass favorites and map material presets. When a material runs out, it remains in its original slot marked unavailable. XD has also refreshed the appearances of Gemma – Frostbitten Heart, Carino – Lethal Flash and Bing – Blast Nova, along with the first four stages of Chapter 1 and Flame Forger’s arena. Torchlight: Infinite is free to play on Steam with in-app purchases; its Steam page says PC and mobile login requires binding a third-party account.
